University of Technology Sydney

Within a new building, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) trialled various workspace configurations for PhD students, ranging from Activity Based Working through to co-working shared spaces. We undertook an evaluation and comparison of these spaces using interactive student tours, surveys, interviews, focus groups and observation studies. Over 250 postgraduate students and 100 staff were engaged.

On completion, recommendations were delivered for internal use and to be circulated with the project and design teams. Guidelines and briefing recommendations were made to consider in future developments.  We also created a standard occupancy evaluation for use internally with future projects to consistently assess project effectiveness.
