Cranfield University

Cranfield University is a high ranking postgraduate university in the United Kingdom. The university has very high satisfaction with teaching but due to the remote location thirty minutes from Milton Keynes, students find the social experience less vibrant than other campuses. With growing enrolments putting pressure on facilities, they are developing a new a central hub which will become the social centre connecting different schools and departments.

Campus Intuition were engaged to study the current staff and student deficits in experience. An evaluation was run with coursework and research students gathering feedback about campus facilities, social experience and community. Students gave rich feedback that adds to the existing understanding of how campus facilities add and detract from student experience.

Given the Covid-19 pandemic, the focus for the project turned to campus revitalisation. In particular this has focused on the use of outdoor spaces that can be used year round to support students in creating and maintaining social contact, but also have alternative options for study that take them outside of crowded indoor spaces.
